Sweet spot characteristics

Physical properties that define sweet spots

Petrophysical analyses help to identify gas-enriched places - the so-called sweet spots

A sweet spot is characterized by:

  • a low reservoir water saturation,
  • a high content of organic matter with abundant kerogen,
  • a low content of clay minerals,
  • a high porosity, voids mostly filled with free natural gas,
  • a high permeability and/or rock fracturability,
  • the presence of natural fractures increasing the efficiency of hydraulic fracturing.
