Polish Geological Survey, performed by Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute, is a member of European EuroGeoSurveys, an umbrella organization of geological surveys.
It is the mission of geological surveys, that have been established as expert scientific institutions since almost two centuries, to inform the public in an unbiased way of the status of the natural environment with special focus on mineral resources. In addition to central and local government administration agencies, information is targeted at industry and each and every citizen alike. It is based on scientific reports and free of any influence from a business or political lobby.
Staff members of Polish Geological Institute – NRI take part in EuroGeoSurveys projects, endeavours and works by expert teams. Moreover, they are members of working groups appointed by the European Commission, Community organizations and agencies to develop EU strategies and policies in the area of environmental management and protection, including in particular geological resources. They are also involved in the efforts of UN and other international organizations' expert groups.
