How much tight gas is trapped in the sandstones?
Unconventional hydrocarbons are more than just shale gas and oil. Geologists distinguish between three groups of unconventional resources:
- coal-bed methane
- shale gas & oil
- tight gas
In the 1990's, the Polish Geological Institute – NRI prepared a forecast and then a report on proved coal-bed methane reserves, followed by the first estimate of shale gas and oil resources in 2012.
Now we are going to present a report on the third tiers of unconventional resources: tight natural gas trapped in compact and poorly permeable sandstones.
Tight gas has been produced worldwide (the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Argentina) for quite a long time. In Poland, tight gas accumulations have been recently discovered in two geological structures. Exploration is underway.
What are the prospective tight gas resources?
The representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and Polish Geological Institute will answer that and other questions at the Press Conference on 17th of March 2015 at 10.00 AM.
The venue of the Conference will be the Institute's headquarters at 4, Rakowiecka Street in Warsaw (Geological Museum building, entrance at Wiśniowa Street).
An accreditation is not required. Everyone interested in the subject are cordially invited to attend the Conference.
